GST, HST, PST — pick the right one

Combined HST applies in ON, NB, NS, NL, PE (13%–15%). GST + PST applies in BC (5%+7%), SK (5%+6%), MB (5%+7%). QC has GST + QST. Alberta and the territories have GST only (5%). Set the Tax % to the combined rate that applies in your province.

Bilingual invoices (FR/EN)

For Quebec clients, add bilingual versions of your line item descriptions or duplicate the most important fields in French in the Notes section. The PDF supports French accents and special characters out of the box.

Interac e-Transfer payment details

Include your Interac e-Transfer email and a security question hint in the Payment Details section. It's the most common way Canadian clients pay freelancers.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to charge GST/HST?
Only if your worldwide taxable revenue exceeds $30,000 over four consecutive quarters. Below that, you are a "small supplier" and do not need to register or charge GST/HST.
How do I handle PST in BC?
Set Tax % to 12 (5% GST + 7% PST) and label it "GST/PST". Many Canadian businesses prefer to break this into two lines in the Notes section so the client sees both amounts.
Are these invoices CRA-compliant?
Yes. The format meets all CRA requirements for invoices over $30 with GST/HST: vendor name, GST/HST number, date, amount, and tax breakdown.
