What a compliant invoice in United Arab Emirates must include

  • The words "Tax Invoice"
  • Supplier name, address and TRN
  • Recipient name, address and TRN (for B2B)
  • Sequential invoice number and issue date
  • Description of goods/services
  • Unit price, quantity, total in AED
  • Discount (if any) and net taxable amount
  • Rate of VAT (5%) and VAT amount
  • Total amount payable in AED

Standard 5% VAT

The UAE applies a flat 5% VAT to most goods and services. Set the Tax % field to 5 and label it VAT. Zero-rated items (e.g. exports outside the GCC, certain healthcare and education) should use Tax % = 0 with a clear note.

Add your TRN (Tax Registration Number)

Use the Tax / Reg ID field in the From section for your 15-digit TRN. For B2B invoices over AED 10,000, the recipient's TRN is also required — add it to the Bill-to Tax/Reg ID field.

Free zone & mainland businesses

Free zone freelancers (Dubai Media City, IFZA, etc.) and mainland LLCs use the same invoice format. Just include your trade licence reference in the address block for full transparency.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to register for VAT in the UAE?
Mandatory if your taxable supplies exceed AED 375,000/year. Voluntary registration is allowed above AED 187,500. Below that, you do not charge VAT.
Are exports VAT-free?
Yes — exports outside the GCC are zero-rated. Set Tax % to 0 and add "Zero-rated export under Article 30/31 of UAE VAT Law" to the Notes field.
Can I generate invoices in Arabic?
The generator supports Unicode, so you can paste Arabic content into the description, address and notes fields. Layout direction stays LTR — most B2B invoices in the UAE are dual-language anyway.
